The ‘sandwich’ styling hack, initially introduced by fashion influencer Lydia Langford, has garnered an enormous fan base on the platform.
In the ever-evolving world of TikTok trends, a new wave emerges daily, and the latest sensation is the ‘sandwich method’—a systematic approach to crafting effortless and casual outfits.
This ingenious technique was initially pioneered by fashion creator Lydia Langford and swiftly garnered a massive following on the platform. Lydia explains the method by suggesting, “When assembling an outfit, consider matching the bottom with the same color as the top. For instance, instead of opting for black pumps, I chose white sandals to complement the overall look.”
However, according to Deepika Bharadwaj, Design Head at Latin Quarters, this style concept has deep roots in the fashion industry. She elaborates, “The sandwich method achieves equilibrium within your ensemble. Imagine two analogous pieces of ‘bread’ enclosing a contrasting ‘filling.’ In fashion terms, it involves coordinating two elements with similar colors or textures and introducing a contrasting element in between.”
Bharadwaj points out that this approach has recently gained widespread attention due to its simplicity and visually pleasing aesthetics.
“This technique harnesses the power of symmetry to craft effortlessly chic attire. Whether you’re heading to a casual brunch, a formal corporate event, or a glamorous gala dinner, it’s a style principle that adapts to any occasion and remains timeless,” she remarked. Deepika Bharadwaj also highlighted how individuals can utilize this approach to breathe fresh life into their existing wardrobes, eliminating the constant need for shopping.
For instance, she illustrated that wearing a beige top or blouse, combined with beige or nude heels or sneakers, along with white pants, exemplifies the ‘sandwich’ hack perfectly. “In this scenario, the color ‘beige’ acts as your ‘bread,’ with ‘white’ serving as the filling sandwiched between the two complementary hues.”
Outfit sandwiching can be further elevated by experimenting with a mix of different materials and textures. Bharadwaj suggested, “You can pair a flowing silk shirt with distressed denim or opt for a bulky knit sweater with sleek leather leggings. The interaction of textures adds depth and transforms your ensemble into a statement look.”
In addition to exploring colors and fabrics, individuals have the liberty to play with proportions and silhouettes. “To create a striking contrast, combine larger pieces with more tailored ones. This contrast in proportions adds depth to your design and lends it a fashionable edge,” she explained.
While sandwich dressing offers innovative guidance, the fashion expert emphasized that the number one rule in fashion is self-expression. “Always remember to stay true to your personal style and experiment with this technique in a way that aligns with your comfort and individuality.”
