You know how some couples stress over picking the perfect wedding date? Radhika Merchant Ambani recently revealed that their wedding weekend wasn’t chosen randomly.
In an interview with Vogue, she explained, “The dates of 12th, 13th, and 14th July were meticulously selected based on advice from our family pujari. He identified auspicious astrological alignments in both my and Anant’s charts.”
Her revelation underscores how the Ambanis and Merchants uphold traditional practices, consulting astrological alignments to guide significant occasions like weddings. But what exactly is the significance of astrological alignments in choosing a wedding date?
According to Sidhharrth S Kumaar, an astro numerologist, “Marriage is a sacred rite mentioned in our scriptures, and selecting an auspicious date adds positivity to the union, ensuring prosperity and joy for the couple.”
Choosing an auspicious wedding date involves a comprehensive assessment of the astrological calendar (panchang) and the bride and groom’s horoscopes. This process, known as Universal Muhurat, focuses on identifying dates most favorable for marriage.
When selecting an auspicious wedding date, astrologers consider specific factors integral to the process. According to Kumaar, a renowned astrologer:
- Universal Muhurat: This focuses on identifying dates recommended for marriages based on factors like Tithi, Nakshatra, Lagna, Yoga, Karan, Vaar (weekday), and the strength of Jupiter and Venus on the wedding date.
- Personalisation of Muhurat: This involves assessing whether a chosen date aligns well with the astrological profiles of both the bride and groom, specifically considering the positions of the Moon, Jupiter, and Venus.
Modern Approaches: Contemporary Indian couples increasingly blend traditional astrological insights with practical considerations when planning their weddings. They embrace cosmic alignments, guided by astrologers who interpret ancient wisdom and teachings to ensure a harmonious and auspicious union.
However, he notes that the scarcity of suitable dates poses a challenge. To overcome this, couples are increasingly choosing ‘destination weddings,’ where date availability tends to be more flexible. This proactive approach enables them to secure a date that meets their astrological preferences while accommodating practical logistics.
