Amid increasing air pollution, it’s crucial to ensure the well-being of your pets. Follow these tips to safeguard them from respiratory issues and allergies associated with poor air quality, much like humans.
If you believe that air pollution only impacts humans, think again. As air quality worsens in Delhi and its surroundings, it’s crucial to consider the well-being of our animal companions. Pets, much like humans, can experience health issues due to poor air quality, leading to respiratory problems and allergies. This is particularly concerning for pets with existing respiratory conditions like bronchitis and asthma.
Extended exposure to air pollution can adversely affect the heart and circulatory system, potentially resulting in heart diseases. Moreover, it can cause irritation to pets’ eyes and noses, leading to infections and discomfort.
Here are tips to safeguard your pets from rising air pollution, provided by Dr Bhoomika R, product executive at Drools Pet Food, and Dr Kunal Dev Sharma, co-chief commercial officer and financial officer at MaxPetZ:
1. Limit outdoor activities: Reduce your pet’s time outdoors, especially on days with poor air quality. Opt for early morning or late evening walks when pollution levels are typically lower.
2. Prioritize indoor ventilation: Create a safe and controlled indoor environment for your pets. Use exhaust fans in bathrooms and kitchens to expel indoor pollutants. Regularly use vacuum cleaners with HEPA filters to maintain a clean home, free from dust particles.
3. Ensure hydration: Ensure your pets have constant access to clean and fresh water. Proper hydration helps their bodies cope with the effects of pollutants.
4. Improve indoor environment: Incorporate air-purifying indoor plants, such as snake plants and spider plants, to enhance air quality. Invest in a high-quality air purifier to trap particles like dust, pet dander, and other pollutants, prioritizing clean air for both you and your furry friend.
5. Use pet-friendly cleaning products: Opt for products free from harsh chemicals to avoid contributing to indoor air pollution. Many conventional cleaning products release volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which can be harmful.
