Celebrities often take up fitness challenges, and Kriti Sanon, the popular actor, recently joined in by attempting the hanging core challenge at the gym. Alongside her trainer Karan Sawhney, Sanon showcased her skills while receiving support from the gym staff for the challenge that resembled flutter kicks.

Sawhney mentioned that they were engaging in the hanging core challenge, involving gripping a bar and performing quick movements for 20 seconds while ensuring the lower body doesn’t swing back and forth. However, Varun Rattan, co-founder of The Body Science Academy, expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of this challenge in targeting the core muscles. Rattan pointed out that typical core training involves movements such as flexing, extending, rotating, and stabilizing the spine, which are not primarily present in this specific exercise.

The core muscles, responsible for stabilizing and controlling the spine and pelvic region, play a crucial role in transferring force and protecting the spine during daily activities. Core strength is more than just power; it involves maintaining proper posture and flexibility for a range of motion.

Training the core can help delay degenerative changes in the spine and safeguard against wear and tear. Core training programs focus on improving stability, strength, power, endurance, and control in the lower back and hip area. These programs should be tailored to individual goals and follow a systematic and progressive approach.
