Situated 28km to the south of Shillong in Meghalaya, the Travellers Nest offers a unique experience with its prefab structure comprising five cozy cottages and a charming restaurant, all set amidst the captivating landscape.
On Thursday, Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma emphasized the significance of community engagement as a driving force behind the state’s economic model.
During the inauguration of “The Travellers Nest” at Kyiem village in Mawphlang, East Khasi Hills, close to the renowned sacred forests of the Khasis, Meghalaya’s Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma expressed the importance of community engagement in the state’s economic framework.
Sangma highlighted the potent force of community involvement, which forms the backbone of their economic approach. He emphasized that Meghalaya’s progress is a collective effort involving the government, community, and the wider public. He underlined the necessity of identifying each stakeholder’s role while keeping the overarching goal in sight.
The Chief Minister affirmed that the government is actively working to showcase Meghalaya’s strengths as a prime example of sustainable economic growth achieved through the synergy of community resources. He stressed the endeavor to establish an economy and livelihood rooted in the state’s inherent capabilities.
“We are constructing an economic model and way of life based on the unique strengths of our state. This model is one we intend to exhibit to the global stage,” remarked the Chief Minister.
Expressing his optimism, the chief minister conveyed his positive outlook regarding the significance of initiatives like “The Travellers Nest.”
Situated 28km to the south of the state capital, “The Travellers Nest” is a prefab establishment consisting of five cottages and a restaurant, thoughtfully designed to cater to the needs of visitors.
Elaborating on the strategic importance of tourism, he articulated, “Tourism is a pivotal sector for us. We are striving to generate nearly one lakh employment opportunities within this sector, facilitated by collaborative efforts from various stakeholders.”
Sangma further highlighted the Chief Minister’s Elevate program, which extends substantial subsidies ranging from 30% to 75% for ventures initiated by diverse entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and other entities.
He expounded, “The program’s objective is to stimulate the economy through a diverse range of initiatives, encompassing domains like cinema halls, health clubs, and tourism ventures.”
Addressing the audience, he underscored the significance of enhanced road infrastructure within the state. He emphasized that the ongoing enhancements and construction of the road connecting Mawphlang to Weiloi serve as a tangible testament to the government’s unwavering commitment towards prioritizing road connectivity.
Exuding optimism, he conveyed his confidence in Meghalaya’s relentless endeavors, envisioning a future characterized by prosperity and sustainability.
“Our journey towards success is well underway, firmly grounded in active community involvement and robust collaboration. Together, we are sculpting a more promising horizon for Meghalaya,” he rallied.
Amidst the proceedings, the Chief Minister also initiated the flag-off of eight Toyota tourist vehicles, emblematic of the Prime Tourism Vehicles scheme.
