Embracing Culture, Agriculture, and Unity: Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2023

Commencing on August 18th, the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival 2023, orchestrated by the Meghalaya Government, inaugurated its festivities at the renowned Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi.

Spanning three vibrant days, the festival’s primary objective was to spotlight not just the extraordinary excellence of Meghalaya’s luscious Kew pineapples, but also to illuminate the state’s abundant cultural heritage.

Commending the Meghalaya government for its initiative within the national capital, Giriraj Singh, the Union Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, remarked, “This is a positive stride towards promoting sustainable agricultural methods, nurturing collaboration between states, and uplifting the livelihoods of our farmers.”

Reflecting on the significance of agricultural diversity and inter-state collaboration, the Union Minister expressed, “Within the fabric of our country’s agricultural panorama, diversity isn’t just a concept; it’s a reservoir of untapped prospects… Meghalaya’s pineapples have earned renown for their exceptional flavor and top-notch quality.”

He further added, “This occasion serves as a platform not solely for showcasing this distinct harvest, but also for spotlighting the unwavering commitment and toil of our diligent farmers who nurture our soil.”

Chief Minister Conrad Sangma emphasized that the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival transcends being a mere celebration of the state’s flavorful yield. Instead, it serves as a dynamic platform to showcase the multifaceted tapestry of our culture, the inventive strides in agriculture, and the unifying spirit that knits our community together.

Remarkably, Meghalaya’s pineapples stand out for having the least pesticide and heavy metal residue across the nation. Additionally, their distinctive taste boasts lower acidity and notably higher sweetness levels.

The Chief Minister also expressed his pride as he informed the audience that thanks to the continuous endeavours of the Government of Meghalaya and its collaborators, pineapples from Meghalaya are now readily available in malls across Dubai, Kuwait, and Sharjah.

As the 77th Independence Day unfolded, the State of Meghalaya unveiled its grand vision for ‘Magnificent Meghalaya,‘ setting forth an ambitious goal of doubling the state’s GDP.
